Is it ok to eat after 6pm? YES!

Beyond Fitness Personal Training busts the top 3 myths asked by clients.

We get asked the same questions by many people: “If I do crunches will I get abs?”, “Do you think if I cut out carbs I will lose weight?” and “Should I stop eating after 6?”. Today I’m going to get you to bust a move to bust that myth!

Myth#1

“If I do crunches will I get abs?”

You already have abs, and don’t worry, they aren’t going anywhere!

But we do understand that the question actually refers to having a visible six-pack showing. Crunches may assist in strengthening your core, but it all comes down to how much body fat you have.

Someone with 25% body fat can do crunches all day long and not see any results, and then again someone with 14% body fat may have ready results without a single crunch being completed.

So in short, no!

MYTH #2

“Do you think if I cut out carbs I will lose weight?”

Yes I do…BUT!

It will return when you start eating properly again, so why waste your time on eliminating an essential macronutrient just to lose a few kilos for a few weeks?

Getting rid of any macro, whether it be protein, carbohydrate or fat will result in weight loss. But this happens only because your body lacks the nutrients needed to repair and work itself properly. So it will look for stored nutrients in your fat and muscle instead.

Losing weight is all about balancing out correct diet and exercise, not cutting out certain foods and depriving your body of nutrients.

MYTH #3

“Should I stop eating after 6pm?”

We don’t know who came up with this idea, but it doesn’t really make much sense. If you only ate breakfast and a quick snack because you were super busy during your day, why would you follow this “rule”?

Your body does not know what time it is so if you have not eaten all of your meals before this time, don’t worry!

If you need it, eat up!

Your stomach will still digest every piece of food for you and you will not gain 20kgs because of a late night meal.

The thing that people get confused about is eating versus over-eating.

As long as you are eating the right amount for your daily activity, then the time you eat is not going to make a difference in the long run.

So there you have it, if you really feel hungry, eat up!
